The Heart of Mataram

Mataram, the capital city of West Nusa Tenggara, is the place where happiness is easy to find. It’s located in Lombok Island. As capital city, Mataram is the center for governmental and economical activity. The history of Mataram is equally unique as Balinese and Javanese history.

Our walk will show you the highlights of Mataram. It covers some of most important buildings and areas, that you didn’t knew existed. The meeting point of the tour is in front of the biggest Islamic Centre of Lombok. We will be expecting you at the big yellow gate.

The walk begins at the Islamic Centre. You will enjoy the greatness of the story and the function of the Islamic Centre itself. Keeping local traditions in mind, you will have to cover your shoulders and legs before entering the mosque.

After exploring the Islamic Centre, the walk is headed to Pejanggik Street. As one of the main streets in Mataram, a lot of governmental buildings are located there. Along the street, you will be pleased by the shade provided by Canari trees which have been there for over 200 years. Don’t worry about the sidewalks because they are enjoyable to walk on. You will see the National bank of Indonesia, the beautiful Sangkareang park, Military Base, Mayor’s Office and governor’s office. It’s a great opportunity to take a different kind of touristic picture.

We will pass the St.Maria Imaculata church which is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Lombok. Afterwards we’ll be heading to a Hindu village known as kampong Pajang. After that, we are going to drop by in one of legendary warung nasi CIM S.MA.K. This place is very popular for its green bean ice. We assure you, you haven’t tasted anything like it before. If you’re not so experimental other menus are also available.

We save the best for last and we hope the two last stops will impress you. You will see Cakranegara, the business centre of Mataram, and take a look at Cakranegara’s local market. This market will really give you the local experience that you won’t find anywhere else. As a countermeasure for the busy market, we will visit the Pura Mayura temple, a relic of  the inheritance of Balinese culture. Go inside and enjoy the blissfulness of serenity.

We can also arrange transportation back to the meeting point with a car. Please ask your guide to make sure you are registered.
